In 1996, he was admitted to the then Sun Yat-sen Medical University and became a student of Wang Jianping, the first dean of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital and former executive vice president of Sun Yat-sen University. After graduation, he stayed at the school to work in the Department of Gastroenterology of Zhongshan First Hospital.

After a doctorate in 2000.
